Man Utd stars have already been told what to expect from Neymar by Pochettino
Pochettino worked with Neymar for 18 months after becoming PSG boss at the start of 2021. During his stint in France, he led the club to the Ligue 1 title and the French Cup but was ultimately sacked at the end of last season.
And Pochettino paid tribute to the superstar Brazilian while he was still in charge at the Parc des Princes. “It’s so easy with Neymar because you don’t need to do too much,” the Argentinian said in April 2021. “From day one, he’s been very open to work. He’s very humble, he listens and always accepts all the instructions in a very good way.
“Brazilian players have something special inside. They love to play football because it’s like a dance. They play like they are dancing. Ronaldinho was my team-mate when I was a PSG player and now Neymar. They need to feel good, to feel happy to perform in the best way.”
Earlier this season, Pochettino appeared on Rio Ferdinand’s Vibe with FIVE YouTube channel. And he once again touched upon his relationship with Neymar as he also discussed blockbuster PSG stars Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
“It was an amazing experience for me,” explained the 51-year-old. “They make your life easy because they are very humble. They are very nice, approachable, personal approach. It’s amazing in the way that they treat you.”
United have enjoyed an improved campaign under Erik ten Hag this time around following a woeful season last time out. The Glazer family owners are currently in talks over a sale of the club, with Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani among the frontrunners to complete a takeover.
Sheikh Jassim is said to be keen to snap-up Neymar as his first signature signing should his takeover bid be successful – but there remains doubts over whether the player can excel in the Premier League at the age of 31.
Neymar joined PSG from Barcelona for a world record transfer fee of £200million in 2017 and has gone on to bag 118 goals and 77 assists in 173 appearances for the club. He has racked-up 13 goals and 11 assists in 20 league games this season as PSG look set to win their ninth title in 11 years.
