Man Utd star Rashford ‘rejects lucrative offers’ from Premier League rivals

Marcus Rashford received offers from other Premier League clubs before deciding to commit his future to Manchester United, according to reports. United have been locked in talks for several months with Rashford over a new deal and it now looks as if the striker is going to be spending his peak years at Old Trafford, having agreed to a new contract ‘in principle’ despite receiving a number of ‘offers’ from rivals.

The 25-year-old is set to pen a new contract worth £300,000 a week, making him one of the club’s highest earners, after prolonged talks with United chiefs and his agent, Dwaine Maynard.

His current agreement will expire in 11 months’ time after United triggered an option to extend it by 12 months while they explored a bumper pay rise.

But the situation was far from certain and it could have gone differently had the forward considered offers from elsewhere. The Athletic report Rashford was subject to interest from Premier League rivals, as well as receiving offers from abroad.

However, he has opted to stick with United as he has ‘always dreamed’ of winning ‘major honours’ with the club.

It is unclear which English clubs submitted an offer for Rashford but, given his eye-watering salary demands, it would be realistic to assume that it would only come from a top-six club.

Arsenal had been linked with a shock swoop as recently as February, while ambitious Newcastle United were thought to be admirers when it emerged Rashford could leave last summer.

As for his suitors outside the UK, it was revealed earlier this year that Paris Saint-Germain had held talks with his representatives over a lucrative move to Paris before the forward’s fortunes in Manchester took a sudden turn for the better.

The club won the Carabao Cup last season to end their six-year wait for a trophy and narrowly lost out to rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

Ten Hag’s men finished third last season to secure Champions League football for next season and the 53-year-old’s management decisions have been widely praised by the club’s fanbase: from deciding to release David de Gea to replacing Harry Maguire as captain.

And the news that Rashford will be sticking around for many years to come – after his best goalscoring season by some margin – will only prove to be another feather in the Dutchman’s cap. Rashford struck 30 goals in all competitions last season, including 17 in the Premier League, and will be an important part of their future plans even if Ten Hag signs a striker this summer.
