Man Utd ‘reject’ lowball Harry Maguire bid with three issues blocking exit

Manchester United have reportedly turned their noses up at a formal bid for Harry Maguire from West Ham. And the Hammers may not come back to the negotiating table after seeing their low-ball offer turned down, with the Hammers believed to be concerned about multiple aspects of the deal.

United reportedly want £50million to cash in on Maguire this summer. They spent an eye-watering £80m to prise him away from Leicester City in 2019, and a downturn in form saw him finish last season as Ten Hag’s fourth-choice centre-back.

To add insult to injury, Maguire was stripped of the United captaincy earlier this month after Bruno Fernandes donned the armband for much of last campaign. West Ham could offer the defender a way out of Old Trafford this summer, and The Athletic claim that a £20m bid has been submitted.

United wasted no time in responding as the proposal was swiftly turned down. And any hopes of an improved offer may not last long, with the Hammers deemed ‘unlikely’ to put more cash on the table.

Reports indicate that David Moyes and co are unsure whether Maguire would be open to the move amid claims that he wants to stay and fight for his place at United. The 30-year-old’s hefty salary is thought to represent a further source of concern.

And the third obstacle blocking Maguire’s prospective move to the London Stadium is the fee itself, with West Ham kicking off the bidding at less than half of the Red Devils’ touted asking price.

Maguire had spells in the Premier League with Hull City and the Foxes before arriving at Old Trafford. Since making his international debut in 2017, the Sheffield-born star has racked up more than a half-century of England caps.

However, a string of errors in the famous red shirt have seen him struggle for minutes under Ten Hag. The decision to replace Maguire as captain left him ‘extremely disappointed’, according to a statement he released on social media.
