Man Utd ready fresh £50m Mount bid as Ten Hag issues Chelsea final ultimatum
Manchester United are readying a take-it-or-leave-it second bid for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, according to reports. Erik ten Hag is prepared to walk away from another top target early to avoid another summer of long-winded sagas if the Blues don’t budge on their hefty asking price.
Mount is widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer as he enters the final 12 months of his contract with little optimism over an extension.
However, Chelsea rejected United’s opening £40million bid for the 24-year-old earlier this week.
The Blues are said to value Mount at £70m, but there is hope they will meet their Premier League rivals down the middle.
According to the Mirror, United will submit an improved offer worth £50m, a valuation they believe is realistic for an out-of-form player set to become a free agent next year.
The report adds that the Red Devils are unlikely to return a third time if Chelsea turn down their revised approach.
Chelsea need to offload players amid Financial Fair Play restrictions, brought on by the £600m splurge that Todd Boehly has overseen since becoming the club’s owner last year.
And with Mount reportedly set on leaving his boyhood club on a free transfer at the end of the season if he can’t seal an exit in the coming months, United’s new offer will be tempting.
Mount emerged as a surprising transfer target for United following months of strong links to Liverpool.
But Ten Hag believes the England international can offer a new dimension to his midfield and attack with his quality and versatility.
The Mirror add that a striker is the Dutchman’s priority this summer, with Anthony Martial set for the exit door at Old Trafford.
And United plan to intensify efforts to sign Napoli’s Victor Osimhen after walking away from Harry Kane talks over Tottenham’s unrealistic asking price.
Given the Serie A champions have no intention to part ways with Osimhen, the proposed fee could prove problematic again.
But United’s summer transfer plans are well underway, despite uncertainty surrounding the club’s takeover.
