Man Utd plot two-player swap deal to hijack Arsenal’s move for Rice at 11th hour

Arsenal could have their hopes of signing Declan Rice scuppered at the last minute with Manchester United reportedly ready to jump into negotiations with West Ham. The Hammers have conceded defeat in trying to keep Rice at the club this summer following their Europa Conference League triumph.

They are still demanding a huge fee for the England international with Arsenal leading the way for his signature. The Gunners have so far had two bids rejected, the latter worth up to £90million.

Arsenal’s second bid was thought to be close to what West Ham are after, suggesting an agreement isn’t too far away from being done. But United seemingly sense that a deal could be hijacked with the Telegraph reporting that they’re considering a player-plus-cash offer for Rice.

It’s claimed that either Harry Maguire or Scott McTominay could be offered with West Ham reportedly interested in the midfielder.

Both players have reportedly been put up for sale by United this summer to help raise funds for Erik ten Hag. But bolstering their midfield options is seen as a key priority with the hope they’re able to move ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign Rice.

Mikel Arteta’s side are still said to be favoured by the West Ham star and a move to the Emirates is seen as ‘far more likely’. However, United’s interest could play into West Ham’s hands to spark a potential bidding war.

West Ham boss David Moyes is also said to be a big fan of Maguire with the England defender falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford. There are some concerns though on whether Maguire would accept a wage decrease from the current deal he earns at United.

It appears as though players have been tapping each other up on international duty too in an attempt to convince them of moves. Luke Shaw had United fans all excited when he shared images of himself alongside Harry Kane and Rice, cheekily writing: “Carrington tour”.

The United full-back was dubbed ‘Agent Shaw’ in response with the United full-back lapping up the speculation.
