Man Utd players ‘share view on David de Gea future’ as club figures want him out

Manchester United players are currently unaware of David de Gea’s future as a clarity issue continues to plague the club, according to reports. However, the Spaniard is understood to be creeping toward the exit door after 12 years as No 1 at Old Trafford, with little progress made on a new contract.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils dressing room is in the dark about whether De Gea will be at Carrington to greet them at the start of pre-season.

His FA Cup final hoodoo could be his parting contribution, with his situation said to be not as positive as earlier this month.

And the report claims some figures at Old Trafford want Erik ten Hag to move on from De Gea, who has kept 190 clean sheets in 545 appearances for United.

Ten Hag is believed to want a new goalkeeper regardless of the 32-year-old’s future this summer as he looks to instil a more competitive edge to his squad.

But with De Gea likely unwilling to settle for a back-up role, and the salary that goes with it, a departure is starting to loom ever-larger.

United opted against triggering a one-year extension in De Gea’s current deal due to his jaw-dropping £375,000-a-week wages.

Ten Hag’s arrival sparked significant concerns over the Spaniard’s ability to suit his style of play, with comfort on the ball and a good passing range crucial.

He subsequently struggled, and high-profile errors against Brentford, Sevilla, West Ham United and Manchester City at Wembley on June 3 have turned his relationship with some sections of the fanbase toxic.

United have triggered Tom Heaton and Nathan Bishop’s extensions but are expected to cash in on Dean Henderson.

Nottingham Forest look set to pursue a permanent deal for the 26-year-old, who played 21 games on loan this season before suffering an injury.

It may leave Ten Hag wanting two goalkeepers – a top-level option to slot into the base of his team now and a younger star for the future.

United have been strongly linked with Inter Milan’s Andre Onana, FC Porto’s Diogo Costa and Brentford’s David Raya in recent weeks.

Given his previous relationship with Ten Hag at Ajax, Onana is reportedly a leading candidate to arrive at Old Trafford.
