Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag offers cryptic Neymar update as transfer not ruled out

Erik ten Hag has refused to shut down talk about a possible swoop for Brazil superstar Neymar.

The United boss was asked about speculation linking the Paris Saint Germain forward with a move to Old Trafford.

Asked whether there was any truth in rumours, Ten Hag said: “When we have news we will tell you.”

Man Utd are reportedly one of a number of clubs who have been approached about signing Neymar this summer with the Brazilian’s future at PSG uncertain.

Things have turned sour in the French capital with fans having gathered outside his house demanding he leave the club.

Until now United have distanced themselves from reports linking them with the former world record £200m signing who joined from Barcelona in 2017.

But the manner of Ten Hag’s response may suggest the club are seriously considering offers from his intermediaries.

Signing Neymar would make sense from a commercial point of view and there is no doubting he could improve United’s front line.

But Ten Hag could well be wary of making a signing that could upset the balance in his squad having eased another big ego out of the club earlier this season in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ten Hag gave a cautious welcome back to Marcus Rashford in training as the forward made his return to Carrington on Tuesday.

But he remains a doubt to play against Chelsea tomorrow as United seek the point which will guarantee Champions League qualification.

“He looks quite fit but we have to see today what is the outcome of the training, how did we recover and then we will make our choices,” said the United boss.
