Man United academy graduate who Jose Mourinho admired joins League Two Barrow

Manchester United academy graduate Tyrell Warren has signed for League Two club Barrow.

Warren has left FC Halifax Town to sign for Barrow on a two-year deal. The right-back, who was born in Manchester, is a product of United’s academy and he was admired by Jose Mourinho during the Portuguese’s two-year reign at the club.

The 23-year-old played for United’s U18 and U23 teams before he permanently joined Class of ’92-owned Salford City on a free transfer in 2019 following the expiration of his contract.

Warren soon left Salford for stints at Radcliffe Borough and Boston United, and he signed for Halifax Town last summer. He’s now been given the opportunity to play in the football league by League Two side Barrow, who announced his signing on Monday.

Although Warren failed to make a senior appearance at United, he was close to playing in Mourinho’s first game in charge of United, against Wigan in pre-season in 2016. “The first game against Wigan is very important because I’m going to have some players I don’t know very well,” Mourinho told MUTV. “At Wigan I will be bringing guys like Tyrell Warren and Axel Tuanzebe.

“I don’t know them well but I just trust Nicky Butt, John Murtough and the structure’s judgement, obviously I’m going to work closely with them so I trust them, when they say we have a few players who, in a couple of years, can be first-team players.

“I have to work with them, I have to give them the chance to work with the first team, to know me, to feel me, to accelerate that process because that process will be in the academy but I can accelerate that process, so let’s go for it.”
