A man scaled a giant crane in West London forcing police and firefighters to rush to the scene in a bid to get him down. The man was spotted above a construction site on Wales Farm Road in North Acton around 9pm on Wednesday (April 20). Emergency services were called by terrified onlookers who filmed as firefighters extended a ladder up towards the crane.
Video footage of the incident shows a firefighter talking to the man from the top of a cherry picker, while crowds of people look up. The fire service arrived at the site just before 9:30pm, but it took almost two and a half hours until the incident was under control. They eventually got the man to come down around 12am and took him to hospital “as a precaution”. Police determined no offence was committed.
A police car, van, and one fire engine were spotted at the junction of Victoria Road, near to existing student halls Holbrook House. The building site is for new student digs paid for by leading London university Imperial College, with 600 rooms spread across tower blocks rising to 31 storeys.

In a statement, the Met Police said: “Police were called at 9.07pm on Wednesday, April 20 after a man was seen at height on a crane at a construction site in Wales Farm Road, W3. Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade. The man subsequently came down from the crane and was taken to hospital as a precaution. No offences were committed.”
The LFB said: “We were called at 9.29pm to reports of a man on a crane and the incident was under control by 11.56pm.”
