A MAN has revealed why he always makes sure to board a plane last – and people surprisingly agree.

When trying to board, you can expect to see a huge queue of passengers trying to get onboard.

However, he wrote on Reddit: “I like being the last person to board my flight

“All the ‘gate lice’ crowd around the boarding lanes anxious to board the metal tube we are going to be stuck in.

“Why would I want to be in there any longer than I have to?

“Yet, everyone acts like they’re rushing for the last food ration just to get to their seat first.

“For what? To sit there longer and be uncomfortable for longer? Don’t get it.”

Lots of people backed his opinion, saying they were the same.

One wrote: “I totally agree with this. I always only ever take a backpack so I don’t need overhead space anyhow.”

Another agreed: “Me too. My favorite moment, the look on the person’s face you’re sitting next to … who thought they had an empty seat next to them.

“Nope. Scoot over, I think you’re in the middle.”

A parent also chimed in, saying: “I agree. Especially when you’re travelling with young kids, they let you board early and that is the exact opposite of what I’m trying to do.

“The less time you’re trapped on a not moving plane with a baby or toddler the better.”

Someone said there was an even better reason, adding: “If you’re last on you can also get to pick any seat that isn’t taken, you can sometimes get extra legroom.”

However, some people pointed out why some like to get on first, especially if flying with budget airlines.

This is because most passengers end up taking a suitcase onboard with them, meaning the overhead lockers fill up quickly.

Someone wrote: “In many flights there might not be overhead space for all the bags and if you are last they make you check in the bag.”

Experts have even revealed why people are paying to board the plane last.

Gilbert Ott, who runs the God Save The Points blog, said celebrities and A-listers often prefer to board last.

He said on his website: “If A-listers were to have their say, there would be a pretty clear consensus.

“After what usually feels like 10-15 minutes of pure idling, where everyone appears to already be on board, the flight deck seems ready to go and crew have completed final checks, that’s usually when it happens.

“A true ‘A-lister’ magically appears, and the aircraft door practically closes behind them, on command, and the words ‘cabin crew, boarding complete’ comes over the loudspeaker.”

Frequent traveller Paul Ewart also explained why he prefers to board last rather than first.

He said: “You have an assigned seat, being first isn’t going to get you a better one, and the aircraft isn’t going anywhere without you — the umpteen loudspeaker calls chasing missing passengers are testimony to that.”

Boarding last might even get you a free upgrade.
