A man who threatened to throw acid on his ex-girlfriend’s face before ramming his car into her promised her “a birthday to remember”, a court has heard. Faisal Shan, 41, allegedly attacked Beanca Zara Shah as she walked home on a residential street in North East London after reporting him to the police.
Jurors at Snaresbrook Crown Court heard that the two had been in a relationship for 12 years, which eventually came to an end in January 2020. Three months later, Ms Shah had taken out a non-molestation order, preventing him from directly having contact with her following a series of incidents.
Giving evidence today, Ms Shah said that during their separation, Shan had threatened: “If I was to leave him, he’d give me a birthday to remember,” and to “throw acid on my face and kill me”. On the eve of her birthday on July 27, he made contact with her aunt, who resided with her at the same property in Romford.

Immediately concerned, she and her aunt decided to travel to Romford Police station at around midnight, to report that he had breached the conditions of his order. On the journey, she said she noticed that Shan’s silver Golf was driving in the area, and reported it to the police. She was instructed to return home, where police officers would soon arrive to take a statement.
The court heard how after she had parked her car near Eustace Road, she was struck by the silver Golf as she was crossing the road. The vehicle drove a short distance towards her before ramming its front bonnet into her left side, causing her to fall to the ground.
‘My whole body was in pain’
She recalled: “I was obviously on the floor, I was in pain, I couldn’t feel where the pain was coming from but I couldn’t move. I just remember my son coming to me, the police and the ambulance and they picked me up and took me into the ambulance.
“It was a bit of a struggle, I thought I’d damaged something as I couldn’t move, it was quite painful. I had some scans, some X-rays, I was in a lot of pain so I was given painkillers and I was told I had damaged my lower coccyx bone, it was inflamed. My whole body was in pain as it was a shock to my whole body.”
She has since been in physiotherapy for a year and has been advised to take pain killer injections to relieve discomfort in her lower back. Shan was arrested and charged with breaching a non-molestation order, dangerous driving and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, all of which he has denied.
The trial continues.
