Man moved to Bali with ‘no savings’ and now makes $140k a year
Olumide Gbenro, 33, moved from San Diego, California to Bali in 2019 and has made big savings in the process.
The expatriate currently makes around $140,000 a year in Indonesia, the equivalent of £111,879.60.
This salary comes from managing his social media marketing agency and he also hosts conferences.
Prior to moving to Bali, the 33-year-old was used to moving to a different country, having moved from Nigeria to London at the age of six.
As a teenager, his family were given green cards and made the move to Columbus, Ohio where he later left to study a double-masters at San Diego University.

After leaving university, Mr Gbenro became a “digital nomad” and moved to Berlin but had “almost no savings and no plan”.
At the time, he had garnered a sizable social media following on Instagram and decided to monetise off of it.
When his visa expired, Mr Gbnero moved to Mexico and travelled for four months before returning to San Diego.
However, his experiences living abroad had shown him another way of living his life, one which may be more affordable.

Speaking to CNBC: Make it, the entrepreneur explained: “I realised I wasn’t happy living in America still.
“There was something about living in America that made me feel like I was not growing.
“As a Black man, there was psychological trauma and pressure I felt living there, especially as an immigrant too, feeling like I didn’t fit in.”
Living in Bali, his biggest expenses are rent and utilities for his one-bedroom apartment which comes to $1,010 (£807.13).
The apartment complex he lives in also includes a private gym, pool and a restaurant on the top floor.
Other expenses include eating out and ordering takeaways which comes to around $600 (£479.48).
The businessman shared why he believes he is now living a luxurious lifestyle compared to remaining in the United States.
He explained: “The quality of life in Bali is crazy. For the same amount of dollars you’d spend in San Diego, or the other big cities, it is like living a life of luxury.
“My income has gone up exponentially since moving to Bali.
“In terms of how much I spend, my costs have gone way down. I’m never worried about money anymore.”
