Man creates treehouse glampsite with caravan up a tree & you can stay for £20

IF you love a campervan holiday, you can go one better – by staying in a carvan up a tree.

Jake Williams, 72, from Inverness, Scotland, is the owner of the 1960s caravan that he decided to put up a 12ft 6 inch Norwegian spruce tree that he planted himself.

Since creating the caravan treehouse, Jake decided he would rent it out as a place for people to stay in the Aberdeenshire village of
Rhynie.

At just £20 per night, Jake believes that it is one of the cheapest properties to rent in Scotland, and he’s proud to say that he’s never seen another caravan treehouse before.

He added: “It’s just an ordinary caravan from the 1960s, and I used to use it when I was travelling around Scotland for work.

“And I found the tree after it had fallen off the back of a lorry, so I brought it back with me and planted it.

“I’ve had the caravan for decades, and then I decided it would be a great idea to turn it into a treehouse where guests can stay.”

He continued: “It easily sleeps two people as there is a double, but it does fit three people too. It would just be a bit crowded.

“There is a bit of a steep staircase that leads up to the caravan.

“There is no mains electricity and there is a dry composting toilet on the ground.

“I also make sure that guests know that there are no showering facilities available.

“Despite there being no electricity, there are some paraffin lamps and head torches available for guests to use to help them see at night.”

Jake also requests that his guests bring their own bedding or sleeping bags, however, he does provide spare blankets in case guests get chilly.

The basic yet quirky Airbnb has been a hit with punters, with many of them describing their unique experience as ‘amazing’.

Jake, who is coy about how the caravan got up the tree, said: “I have added a camping gas cooked into the caravan, and there is also a sink with a plug so guests can take water up to the treehouse if they wish.

“People mainly come and stay at the treehouse for a cheap weekend away.

“Touch wood, the caravan is secure up there. It is chained onto the
tree, and I am always carrying out small but continuous maintenance.

“It’s grown pretty well, and I have to say, I’ve never seen another
caravan in a tree before.”
