Man arrested after swastikas sprayed on walls near Camden synagogue
Following reports of a male spraying swastikas on walls in Camden, detectives arrested a man yesterday (3 November).
The man, aged in his early 40s, was taken into custody on suspicion of racially aggravated criminal damage. He has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act and remains in the care of medical professionals.
Police were initially alerted to a male spraying swastikas on walls near a synagogue in Belsize Square at 7.40pm on Saturday 30 October, before then establishing that this had happened elsewhere in the surrounding area.

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan tweeted that he was “sick to hear about this”, adding: “Antisemitism has no place in our city.”
The Labour MP for Hampstead and Kilburn, Tulip Siddiq, also expressed anger on social media, writing: “Sickened by this vile act of antisemitism in my constituency. Glad to hear that this appalling graffiti is being removed. Enormous thanks to @MPSCamden and others who worked hard to deal with this swiftly. There’s no place for this hate in our borough.”

A 16 year old man, who was arrested later on 30 October on suspicion of religiously aggravated criminal damage, has been released and told that no further action will be taken.
At this time, officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation, but are continuing to work closely with the local authority and communities within Belsize Park.
