Strictly Come Dancing bosses have reportedly set their sights on Phillip Schofield following his departure from This Morning.

The Dancing On Ice presenter, 61, announced his exit from the ITV daytime show on Saturday after rumours of a fallout with his co-star Holly Willoughby, 42.

While the I’m A Celebrity broadcaster confirmed it would continue working with Phil, including on a prime-time show next year, it is claimed the BBC wants to use the This Morning gap in his schedule to their advantage.

The Line of Duty network is thought to be keen to snap up Phil as a contestant on Strictly following in the footsteps of other broadcasters like Naga Munchetty and Matt Baker.

An insider claimed the juggernaut show’s bosses would ‘love’ to see Phil on the ballroom floor ‘because of the publicity it would generate.’

They told The Sun: ‘Phil has been asked before but this time the offer was more aggressive.

‘Since he was axed from This Morning, people have been discussing what they could do with him.

‘Phil has had approaches from broadcasters like Channel 5 who are keen to discuss possible projects.

‘Given he’s currently lying low and trying to work out his next move, it’s unlikely he will put on his dancing shoes but stranger things have happened.

‘No one thought he’d ever leave This Morning and look how that ended up.’

Phil currently presents similar competition series Dancing On Ice over on ITV with Holly, although his future on the show is unclear.

However, an ITV spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘Dancing On Ice isn’t due on ITV until January 2024 and the series is not currently in production.’

They added they will make ‘further announcements’ about the show, including the presenting line-up, in ‘due course.’

Last year, wildlife camera operator Hamza Yassin took home the Glitterball Trophy after battling it out in the finals with Helen Skelton, Fleur East and Molly Rainford.

Metro.co.uk has contacted the BBC and Phillip’s reps for comment.

Strictly is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
