Married At First Sight UK star Jonathan Wileman ignited an uproar among fans after admitting he doesn’t find his wife Sophie Brown attractive during Monday night’s episode.
Speaking to the other husbands during the retreat, he shared his belief that a spark is missing between him and Sophie, despite the pair previously telling the group they had slept together.
‘Sometimes you meet someone, and you want to rip her clothes off,’ he said. ‘That intensity… it’s just a feeling you have between each other. Not necessarily just you, but it’s reciprocated and it’s there.’
Trying to make sense of Jonathan’s remark, Kwame Badu asked: ‘Hold on a minute, you’re saying you don’t want to rip Sophie’s clothes off?’
‘Well, yeah,’ Jonathan replied, before adding that he does think there is something to ‘work towards’.
His comments came after Sophie broke down in tears to the girls over her husband’s remarks about weight gain.
‘I feel a certain type of way about body image,’ she admitted. ‘What if I got big? If I loved you then that’s it. He’s very brutally honest.’
It’s fair to say that viewers were furious by Jonathan’s comments and didn’t hold back their thoughts online.
One slammed: ‘You see how a man will disrespect you!!! Jonathan slept with this woman, doing up massages and now saying he don’t want to rip off clothes… sir, please go eat your haribo somewhere!!! Idiot!!!!’
Echoing a similar sentiment, another said: ‘So Jonathan has slept with Sophie and NOW basically saying they don’t have a spark?! The disrespect.’
‘Can Jonathan actually not see Sophie? It’s so obvious how gorgeous she is,’ wrote a third.
Will Jonathan’s comments come back to haunt him? Only time will tell…
