Mae Muller had a variety of jobs before Eurovision gig – including trapeze artis
It truly is a-Mae-zing how far Mae Muller has come as she prepares to fly the flag at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Last week, it was revealed the 25-year-old north Londoner will represent the UK with her track I Wrote A Song.
In an exclusive interview with Guilty Pleasures, which took place ahead of the announcement, Mae shared that catching a break in the industry didn’t come easily.
‘I had a couple of jobs before I did music. I worked in American Apparel on Oxford Street for a year,’ she said. ‘I made a lot of friends, so I guess it was OK, but retail was not for me. People were so rude, like, what the heck? I couldn’t do it.
‘Then I worked in a pub, which was better, because it’s a bit more chill. I was also a receptionist, and I was so bad at it. My brain just doesn’t work like that. I lasted two weeks!’
And what might it surprise people to know about Mae, who enjoyed chart success in 2021 with Better Days, and toured with Little Mix?
‘I did trapeze for five years,’ she added. ‘I was flipping about, doing upside-down moves on the ropes. I had a few rope burns but no injuries, no broken bones.’
Mae swings into action when Eurovision rolls into Liverpool in May, hoping to reach the same heights – or even higher – as last year’s runner-up Sam Ryder.
