The MBA programme has attracted the highest number of admissions, with 8,000 students joining in 2021-22.
“The number of admissions has increased to pre-pandemic level. Besides MBA, courses like M Com, B Com, M Sc (Cyber Forensics), MSc (Counselling Psychology) and BA (English) are in huge demand,” said K Ravichandran, director of the university’s Institute of Distance Education (IDE).
The IDE offers 16 UG programmes, 22 PG programmes, 21 diploma programmes and 16 certificate programmes. With more than a month before admissions close, officials expect the numbers to go past those recorded before the pandemic.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has permitted IDE to offer BBA, B Com, M Com, BA (French) and MA in Journalism and Mass Communication, Public Administration, Anthropology, Economics and English.
The university will start enrollment after preparing the infrastructure and video lectures. “Certificate courses like design thinking, artificial intelligence like at IITs and IIMs will be offered in future,” said vice-chancellor S Gowri.
The university has applied to the UGC, seeking to offer 11 new degree programmes, skill and job-oriented, and is yet to get the nod.
It has partnered with the UGC’s Consortium for Educational Communication to offer seven new certificate courses and three diploma courses. “Along with job-oriented courses, we also want to offer courses which will create socially aware citizens with ethical values,” the vice-chancellor added.
After the Covid-19 pandemic struck, the IDE conducted exams in online mode for students. Now, the mode of upcoming exams will be decided based on the prevailing situation, officials said.
