Madonna rushed to hospital with ‘serious bacterial infection’ and postpones tour
Madonna has had to postpone her Celebration tour after being rushed to intensive care with a “serious bacterial infection”.
A statement from the 64-year-old singer’s talent manager Guy Oseary confirmed: “On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which lead to a several day stay in the ICU.
“Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.
“At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour.
“We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.”
Page Six has reported that Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon was by her bedside throughout her health ordeal.
The US outlet also claimed that she was found “unresponsive”, before being intubated for at least one night during her hospital stay.
She is now reported to be alert and recovering in a New York City hospital
Madonna was set to begin her Celebration tour on July 15.
British fans were excited to see the Vogue hitmaker from October 14, as she was due to perform in London for four nights.
Madonna’s highly-anticipated comeback to performing on stage was scheduled to begin in Vancouver, Canada, in a matter of weeks.
She was set to embark on a 43-city global tour, which had been planned to last throughout the beginning of 2024.
Madonna’s forthcoming tour will “be highlighting her unmatched catalog of music from the past 40-plus years,” the announcement stated.
The concerts will also “pay respect to the city of New York, where her career in music began”.
Prior to her health woes, Madonna had shared her excitement for the tour to get started.
In an announcement video, the iconic popstar said: “I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for.”
Celebration marks Madonna’s first tour since 2020, when she performed tracks from her Madame X album.
