Madonna ‘didn’t want to take time away from rehearsals’ amid shock illness
The 64-year-old singer was recently rushed to hospital and is currently recuperating after a bacterial infection saw her spend time in the ICU towards the end of last month.
She sparked concern after it was said she was found in her apartment on Saturday, June 24, ‘unresponsive’ and was taken ‘to the hospital and intubated’ shortly afterwards.
Since news of her illness emerged, an insider offered comments on the Material Girl hitmaker’s movements prior to her hospitalsation and her upcoming performances.
They told People: ‘She ignored some symptoms of illness for quite a while because she thought they would go away. But she didn’t want to take time away from rehearsals.
‘She was rundown and not feeling 100 percent for a while in anticipation of her tour. She is relentless in her quest to be the best, to wow her fans and to do what others before her have not done.’
The publication also reported that a separate source had too spoken about the star’s rigorous working schedule.
They claimed: ‘Madonna has been very busy for a long time and not taking care of herself. She just continues to push herself beyond the limit.’
Talent manager Guy Oseary first shared the update on Madonna’s health with the world in a statement released on his social media.
He penned: ‘On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU.
‘Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.
‘At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.’
Following the announcement, a source revealed to DailyMail.com that the chart-topper is now ‘out of the ICU and recovering’.
Madonna was due to kickstart her 84-date Celebration tour in Vancouver, Canada, on July 15 however her sudden illness halted the schedule.
