Made-in-India Battle Royale Game in Development at Maskgun Studio SuperGaming

SuperGaming, the studio behind one of India’s most successful mobile games, Maskgun, has announced that it is working on bringing a Made-in-India battle royale game that is expected to launch in early 2022.

The news comes along with the announcement that SuperGaming has raised $5.5 million (around Rs. 40,80,00,000) in Series A funding from Skycatcher, AET Fund (venture arm of Akatsuki), BAce Capital, Dream Incubator, 1Up Ventures and Monish Darda. The funding will allow SuperGaming to expand its team from 120 to 200 people along with expanding its publishing arm.

“Gaming in India is witnessing accelerated growth and SuperGaming is well poised to leverage it to begin their next phase of expansion,” said Yuki Kawamura, Partner at AET Fund and Board Member.

“As an early investor, we are thrilled to contribute to this round and remain bullish about the founding teams’ vision especially with the impressive growth of Devil Amongst Us and the first real Battle Royale Built in India.”

SuperGaming’s previous game, Maskgun was announced to have crossed 50 million downloads, which is impressive considering it’s the same as Battlegrounds Mobile India, although the latter crossed the milestone in a significantly shorter amount of time before its release on iOS. SuperGaming’s unannounced battle royale game isn’t the first made in India game in the genre, with Mobile Premier League also working on its own BR game, eying a potential late 2021 release.
