macOS is now the second-most desktop operating system in the world – Times of India
According to recent data from StatCounter, which analysed the global market share of desktop operating systems from June 2022 to June 2023, Windows is still the dominant player, with a share of 68.15 per cent. However, macOS has secured the second position with an adoption rate of 21.38 per cent.
There was a small drop in usage from June to August 2022, but it picked back up from August to October. Another dip occurred leading up to December. Then, the turning point came in December, when the adoption went up by around 22 per cent, and since then, there has been a steady and gradual increase in adoption.
As of now, the adoption rate for ChromeOS stands at 4.15%, while Linux trails behind with a rate of 3.08%. An unidentified operating system holds a 3.23% share, which could potentially be an undetected Windows update.
In December 2022, there was no new Mac model from Apple. However, in January 2023, the company introduced MacBook Pro models with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. It is expected that the launch may have played a vital role in increasing macOS adoption since this operating system is only available on Macs.
