The Californian tech giant unveiled the gadgets alongside its new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips.

These are custom processors built in-house by Apple, and have been described as “next-level”.

Apple typically announces new products with much fanfare at a livestreamed event.

But sometimes – like today – new gadgets are revealed more quietly in an update to the Apple Newsroom website.

MacBook Pro

There are two new MacBook Pro models, shipping in 14- and 16-inch sizes.

And both can be specced to feature the new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips.

Apple says they’re “the most powerful and efficient chip” for a pro laptop.

“Apple’s next-generation pro silicon that brings even more power-efficient performance and battery life to pro users,” Apple explains.

It’s claimed that the new MacBook Pro is 6x faster than the quickest model using an Intel chip at some tasks.

And Apple says battery life has been given a huge boost thanks to the chip.

The MacBook Pro now boasts a whopping 22 hours of use per charge.

That’s the longest battery life ever featured on a Mac.

The new models are available to to order today, with availability from Tuesday, January 24.

“MacBook Pro with Apple silicon has been a game changer, empowering pros to push the limits of their workflows while on the go,” said Apple marketing chief Greg Joswiak.

“And do things they never thought possible on a laptop.

“Today the MacBook Pro gets even better. With faster performance, enhanced connectivity, and the longest battery life ever in a Mac, along with the best display in a laptop, there’s simply nothing else like it.”

In the US, you’ll pay $1,999 for the new 14-inch MacBook Pro and $2,499 for the 16-inch model.

But prices will quickly climb if you add the M2 Max chip, more storage or memory.

UK prices are yet to be confirmed.

Mac Mini

Apple has also given the Mac mini a much-needed update.

The small desktop computer can also be fitted with the new M2 Pro chip, as well as the original M2.

Impressively, the speedy Mac starts at just $599 / £649.

“The new M2 Pro chip delivers pro-level performance to Mac mini for the first time,” Apple boasts.

“Enabling users to run high-performance workflows that were previously unimaginable in such a compact design.”

The new Mac mini is available to order today, and starts shipping on Tuesday, January 24.

“With incredible capabilities and a wide array of connectivity in its compact design, Mac mini is used in so many places, in so many different ways,” Apple’s Joswiak said.

“Today, we’re excited to take it even further with M2 and M2 Pro.

“Bringing even more performance and a lower starting price, Mac mini with M2 is a tremendous value.

“And for users who need powerful pro performance, Mac mini with M2 Pro is unlike any other desktop in its class.”
