Mabel can barely contain her excitement to see Maya Jama front the next series of Love Island, taking over from Laura Whitmore.

It was announced earlier this month that Maya, 28, will be replacing Laura as host of the popular ITV2 dating show after speculation she was bosses’ favourite pick.

The likes of Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and former islander Maura Higgins were also rumoured as potential replacements for Laura, who announced in August that she would be stepping down from her role on the series after two years at the helm.

The 37-year-old had fronted the programme, and its spin-off series Aftersun, since 2020 after the death of the show’s former presenter Caroline Flack.

Now, Maya will be taking over, and Don’t Call Me Up singer Mabel can’t wait, and she’s keen to get back into the villa to perform after her incredible party during the 2021 series.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk at Kiss FM’s Haunted House Party, she said: ‘I would love to perform there [on the show] again, it would be so good, and also Maya’s hosting now.

‘I literally can’t wait, I love Laura as well, but I’m excited to see Maya.’

After much speculation, ITV finally confirmed Maya as the new host of Love Island when the series returns to South Africa in 2023.

‘I’ve always been such a massive Love Island fan and I’m so excited to be hosting one of the nation’s favourite shows!’ Maya enthused.

‘I can’t wait to get into the villa to meet all of the islanders.’

Maya also celebrated the news in a video shared on social media where she revealed her new role.

The clip began with the star scrolling through tabloid stories about who would be presenting before grabbing her Love Island water bottle. Her branded suitcase was then revealed in the shot.

‘Okay, the rumours are true ???? Say hey to your brand new #LoveIsland host @mayajama!’ the caption read.

Love Island returns to ITV2 in 2023.
