M602 closed after serious collision involving pedestrian – updates

The M602 in Greater Manchester is closed in both directions between junctions 2 and 3 following a serious collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

Emergency services are responding at the scene.

The road has been closed since around 2.30am and diversions are in place.

Eastbound diversion:

Follow the solid triangle diversion signs.

  • Exit the M602 at J2.
  • At the roundabout, take the third exit onto the A576 (Gilda Brook Road).
  • At the A576/A57 roundabout, take the first exit onto the A57 (Eccles New Road).
  • Continue to the M602 J3 roundabout (Regent Road Roundabout).

Westbound diversion:

Follow the solid circle diversion signs.

  • At the A57/A5063 roundabout, join the A57 eastbound (Eccles New Road).
  • At the A57/A574 roundabout, turn right onto the A576 (Gildabrook Road).
  • Re-join the M602 at J2.

An update from traffic monitoring service Inrix at 4.01am said: “M602 in both directions closed due to accident from J2 A576 Gilda Brook Road (Trafford Park / Eccles) to J3 A5063 Trafford Road (Regent Road Roundabout).

“The road has been closed since around 02:30 Tuesday morning.

“Diversion – For Eastbound traffic follow the Solid Triangle signs – Take the A576 and then the A57 to M602 J3. For Westbound traffic follow the Solid Circle signs – Take the A57 and then the A576 to re-join the M602 at J2.”

A tweet from National Highways at 2.54am said: The #M602 is CLOSED in both directions between J2 and J3 near #Salford due to a collision involving a pedestrian and a car.”

A later tweet at 3.23am said: “There are currently no delays on the approach to the closure of the #M602 in both directions between J2 and J3.”
