Lumineers’ Wesley reveals grizzly encounter during search for inspiration
Lumineers frontman Wesley Schultz had a very scary – or bear-y – encounter while he was out and about looking for inspiration.
In an exclusive interview with Guilty Pleasures, the Ho Hey singer recalled going down to the woods one day – and he was in for a big surprise.
Wesley, 40, who owns a couple of cabins in New York state’s Catskill mountains, explained: ‘I come out here, there’s lots of places to get lost, to clear your head.
‘There’s a hiking trail and I’ve run into a couple of bears. You’re in your head and not paying attention, and then you suddenly see this animal coming.
‘Every type of bear, the experts give different advice. A “town bear”, used to people, they’re the ones you’ve got to give a wide berth. The ones that I saw, I snuck on them by accident.
‘They were sleeping, and when the bear popped up I was like, “Whoa!” It just ran in the opposite direction, as fast as it could.
‘Luckily, it wasn’t a grizzly bear – those will come after you!’
This summer The Lumineers play their biggest-ever UK show – at Crystal Palace Park – as part of their Brightside world tour.
They will be joined on July 8 by special guests Ella Henderson and Rag’N’Bone Man. For tickets, visit ticketmaster.co.uk.
