Lucky buyer bags classic £20million Ferrari for £200k – but there’s a catch

A LUCKY buyer has bagged a classic £20million Ferrari for only £200k – but the ‘bargain’ sale comes with an obvious catch.

In fact, the buyer didn’t purchase an original Ferrari at all – the model in question being a rare and much sought after 250 GT California Spyder, costing millions of pounds.

This replica is actually a 1998 BMW Z3 stripped and modified to look almost identical to a classic Ferrari California Spyder.

It’s finished in Ferrari’s iconic Rosso Corsa red, while the copycat car is based on the California Spyder short-wheelbase version.

The seller told SupercarBlondie: “In fact, it’s almost identical in shape and size to the real car, but it drives a lot different.

“We’re talking six speeds with 500 horsepower.”

You can now buy a new electric ‘MINI’ for just £3,500 - but there's a catch

This fake Ferrari includes a functional hood scoop, Spyder door handles and powerful-looking quad exhaust outlets.

The interior looks very similar to the original, but there are a few differences in functionality.

Hill added: “We’ve got air-conditioning, we’ve got electronic gauges, and we’ve got a bigger door.

“The California was originally really not very good for taller people, so if you’re over six feet tall, you’ll fit in this car, and you can actually drive it.”

The seller revealed that the windshield on the replica sits at a different angle and has quarter windows, while the cabin features a digital odometer and BMW seatbelts.

The replica was eventually sold to the lucky buyer by Bring a Trailer for $267,000 (£206,167).

This comes after drivers were left stunned after realising that they could buy a brand-new electric MINI for just £3,500.

Plus, drivers were left blown away after discovering they could buy a brand new BMW X3 for only £4,500, but there’s also a catch.
