Lowry celebrates hilariously with tongue as McIlroy misses putt by MILLIMETRES
RORY MCILROY’S agonising missed put by a matter of MILLIMETRES saw Shane Lowry win the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
And the Irishman celebrated his first win since 2019 in hilarious fashion.
An eagle on the 18th for McIlroy would have seen him join Lowry on -17 and force a play-off.
But the four-time major winner saw his 20-plus yard putt miss the hole by a matter of millimetres.
Lowry watched on in dread from the clubhouse as the ball trickled its way towards the whole.
Somehow it didn’t drop, prompting Lowry to celebrate by sticking out his tongue and spinning it around, while going cross-eyed.
While Lowry celebrated wildly, McIlroy looked on devastated after missing his putt.
And Lowry rubbed salt in McIlroy’s wounds as he joked to him after the game: “You’ve won enough anyway!”
Jon Rahm finished the tournament third after a superb final round of 62.
Lowry revealed the win at Wentworth meant more to him as LIV Golf rebels Talor Gooch and Patrick Reed finished fourth and T5 respectively.
He declared “this is one for the good guys” after securing his first victory since the 2019 Open.
Lowry revealed: “I made no secret how I feel about the whole thing and wanted to go and win the tournament for myself and those who have stayed loyal and done everything for the tour.
“This is one for the good guys.”
