Love Island’s Jack Keating says he and Gemma Owen had to repeat chat about dads
When this year’s series began, one of the biggest talking points about the new cast was the fact that Gemma is the 19-year-old daughter of England footballing legend Michael Owen.
However, when Casa Amor began, it emerged that she wasn’t the only one with a dad in the public eye, as newcomer Jack’s father is none other than Boyzone singer Ronan Keating.
While viewers might not find it surprising to hear that the pair found common ground with their familial connections, 23-year-old Jack has spoken out about how they were asked to rehash their chat about their dads, in what sounds like a pretty non-organic moment.
‘I think the biggest, most surprising thing for me is just like how many times they have to build things if they want to get different shots, different angles, different conversations,’ he told MailOnline.
‘The [producers] will ask you again to sit down and have the same conversation again and bring up the same sort of things. That’s what I thought was the most surprising thing.’
He added that when he and Gemma spoke about their dads, ‘they asked us to go sit down and have the same chat about our dads’.
‘I was like, “Oh god,”’ he recollected.
When asked why they were asked to go over what they’d already spoken about once again, Jack responded: ‘They just wanted to get some more footage pretty much, I’m not really sure, more angles or… I’m not really too sure to be fair.
‘They were just like, “Can you go sit down by the pool again and have a chat about your dads?”’
Jack admitted he questioned how they were going to ‘get this conversation back going again’ at the time.
When it was revealed that Jack, who works in social media marketing, was joining the Love Island line-up, his dad Ronan admitted he felt ‘nervous as hell’.
‘When I saw him walk into the villa my heart was beating out of my chest,’ the singer shared at the time.
He added: ‘I’m excited for him though, this is something he wanted to do, and I’ll always support him and all my kids in their endeavours.’
Ronan shares Jack with his ex-wife, model Yvonne Connolly, who he was married to from 1998 to 2015 and with whom he had three children.
Since 2015, he’s been married to fashion designer Storm Uechtritz, with whom he has two children.
