Love Island producers are reportedly ‘in talks’ for Laura Whitmore to return for the upcoming series after bosses claimed they were looking for a new face to front the annual dating show.

The hit ITV2 programme officially opened applications at the beginning of the year, five months after Millie Court and Liam Reardon were crowned winners.

And now, it seems like the team is getting the ball rolling ahead of its arrival this summer, by bringing back the 36-year-old Irish host.

The Sun claims that ITV has ‘negotiated’ with Laura and suggested that her return as presenter is pretty likely.

‘Talks have now begun with Laura and her reps,’ an insider told the publication.

‘Looks like she will be back this year, even though the vote in her favour is far from unanimous.’

An ITV spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘We love working with Laura. She is a fantastic host on the show and we will confirm details around the new series soon.’

This comes after reports suggested that those in charge were considering replacing Laura with Maya Jama, and former contestant Maura Higgins.

Love Island has had quite the shake-up already, with reports suggesting this year’s islanders will be in a new villa and non-binary applications are supposedly being accepted.

In response to the claims, a Love Island spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘The only stipulations are that applicants are over 18, single and looking for love.’

The notorious villa has presented us with some memorable moments from the show’s six-year run, including that Brexit chat, Josh Denzel bringing Kaz Crossley into the main villa, and who can forget Hugo Hammond’s shocking recoupling speech.

Safe to say we can’t wait to see what drama awaits around the fire pit.

Metro.co.uk has reached out to Laura Whitmore’s reps for comment.

Love Island returns to ITV2 later this year, and past episodes are available to watch on ITV Hub.
