Louis Theroux on cousin Justin’s marriage to Jennifer Anniston: ‘Not polyamorous!’
The journalist, 51, returns to our screens tonight with a new documentary about the internet and social media in the US. Louis delves into the dark world of online extremists, unpicking what it is that draws in their young, often male, fanbases. The presenter chats to some of the influencers behind the proliferation of far-right ideologies. Louis confronts racist, misogynistic, homophobic and anti-Semitic views, which are often expressed by online stars under the guise of “irony”.
One such person is far-right commentator Nick Fuentes, who is shown in the documentary broadcasting his own programme from his parents’ basement.
Previously based in the US, Louis lives in London with his wife, the TV producer Nancy Strang, and their three sons.
He is known for his inquisitive yet non-judgemental interviewing style in documentaries covering a range of subjects.
His 2018 film, ‘Love Without Limits’, about polyamorous relationships, even made Louis think about his own family.
The journalist referenced the film during a 2019 appearance on Australian TV show ‘The Project’ as he discussed his cousin Justin’s marriage to Jennifer Anniston.

He told host Lisa Wilkinson: “One of the things I learned when I made a documentary about polyamory.
“They [Justin and Jennifer] are not polyamorous, that’s not where this is going.
“[I learned that] you don’t judge relationships by their longevity.
“You judge them by the amount of happiness they produce.”
Hollywood actor Justin tied the knot with ‘Friends’ star Jennifer in Los Angeles in 2015.
“I guess I just thought about that relationship ending.
“My immediate next thought was like: ‘That’s kind of cool, that he is going out with someone famous’.”
Louis also recalled the moment he finally met Jennifer, whose more recent work has included film credits such as ‘Murder Mystery’.
He said: “She seems really nice for what I can tell.
“Then, later on, I met her a few times and she always struck me as great.”
‘Louis Theroux’s Forbidden America’ airs on BBC Two tonight from 9pm-10pm.
