LOOK: Lea Salonga performs at White House state dinner
Lea Salonga was among the Broadway stars who performed for South Korean president Yoon Suk-yeol during a state dinner at the White House in Washington D.C., United States.
Salonga, along with singer-actors Jessica Vosk and Norm Lewis, who is also a Tony awardee like the Filipino pride, showcased her powerful voice through various songs at the event, as seen in pictures uploaded by Filipino fashion designer Rajo Laurel on Instagram on Thursday, April 27.
During the event, the “Miss Saigon” star was seen wearing a long-sleeved, off-shoulder ballgown which was designed by Laurel.
“My dear friend @msleasalonga making every Filipino proud as she performs for President Biden at the @whitehouse wearing @houseoflaurel #couture [emojis] Thank you dear friend for constantly being an inspiration to us all,” he said in the caption.
TV host Raymond Gutierrez and content creator Nicole Anderson expressed their support for the Broadway star through a series of emojis in the comments of Laurel’s post.
The State Dinner was hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden for Suk-yeol and his wife Kim Keon-hee, who was visiting to further forge the two countries’ alliance. The Korean president also received a guitar signed by singer Don McLean.
Reports of Salonga’s performance at the White House emerged earlier this week, which she confirmed on her personal Twitter page last April 22. EDV
