Longtime Kansas City Chiefs fan dies while visiting training camp

A tragedy unfolded Sunday during Chiefs training camp when a lifelong fan of the team died, according to Kansas City’s KMBC News.

The death of Jessica Tangen, a mother and longtime supporter of the franchise, was confirmed Sunday in a statement by Mosaic Life Care, the healthcare partner for the Chiefs’ training camp.

“We are devastated to share that one of the Kansas City Chiefs beloved fans, Jessica Tangen of Riverside, Mo., passed away Sunday morning during practice at Chiefs Training Camp,” Mosaic Life Care said in a statement provided to KMBC News.

“Jessica’s family shared that she was a lifelong Chiefs fan and loved cheering for the team.

“Please join us in lifting up the grieving family with your thoughts and prayers.”

Mosaic Life Care’s statement said its caregivers tended to Tangen, while also receiving assistance from the Buchanan County EMS and Missouri Western State staff.

The statement added there would be no further details provided surrounding the death.

The Kansas City Star reported Sunday that an ambulance with its lights displayed could be seen near the Chiefs’ fields following practice.

Mosaic Life Care is the official health care provider of Chiefs training camp, which takes place at Missouri Western State’s campus in St. Joseph, Mo.

Missouri Western State is approximately 60 miles north of Arrowhead Stadium, where the Chiefs play.

KMBC News said the northwest region of Missouri, where the Chiefs host training camp, has been dealing with a “record-breaking heatwave.”

The Chiefs, the reigning Super Bowl champions following their win over the Eagles in February, will kick off the regular season on Sunday, Sept. 7.

They’ll host the Lions, who finished second in the NFC North last season with a record of 9-8.
