Liza Soberano confirmed to star in Hollywood movie ‘Lisa Frankenstein’
Liza Soberano has been confirmed to star in the upcoming horror-comedy film “Lisa Frankenstein,” marking her first movie project in Hollywood.
The actress will be appearing alongside previously announced co-stars Cole Sprouse (“Riverdale”) and Kathryn Newton (“Big Little Lies”), as per Deadline today, Aug. 12 (Aug. 11 in the United States).
Soberano will also star with actors Carla Gugino (“The Haunting of Hill House”), Joe Chrest (“Stranger Things”) and Henry Eikenberry (“The Crowded Room”).
“Lisa Frankenstein” is set in the year 1989. It follows an unpopular high school student (Newton) who accidentally brings back to life a handsome Victorian corpse (Sprouse), then rebuilds him to be the man of her dreams using a broken tanning bed.
Details on the other actors’ roles have not been disclosed, though it is rumored that Chrest may be playing the titular character’s father Dale.
Speculations on Soberano’s involvement in “Lisa Frankenstein” started Tuesday, Aug. 9, when Jessie Stafford of the Hollywood event production agency JSLA Events tagged Soberano in a post about the movie. Fans also noticed that Sprouse, Newton and director Zelda Williams started following Soberano on Instagram. However, at the time, Soberano did not confirm if she would be part of the movie.
“Lisa Frankenstein,” Zelda’s debut in making feature films, is written by Diablo Cody. Zelda is an actress and the daughter of late comedian Robin Williams. Meanwhile, Cody received an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the 2007 film “Juno,” and Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical for Broadway’s “Jagged Little Pill.”
Production for “Lisa Frankenstein” started earlier this week, based on an earlier Instagram post by Newton. It is reportedly being filmed in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the US. A target release date for the film is yet to be revealed as of this writing. /ra
