For public figures there is almost always some kind of meaning behind their clothes, as what they wear has been carefully thought out by stylists or themselves. This happens with members of the Royal Family, but also with politicians, such as Liz Truss.
An expert has shared the meaning behind the Prime Minister’s clothes, and why she chooses to wear what she does for important, high pressure occasions.
Fashion psychologist Shakaila Forbes-Bell was on ITV’s Lorraine this morning to discuss Ms Truss’ style choices.
Host Ranvir Singh, stepping in for Lorraine, noted that the Prime Minister wears a lot of blue – whether it’s a navy blue suit or a sky blue dress.
In fact, Ms Truss donned a navy blue suit, a white blouse, and a pair of black heels for yesterday’s, October 19, Prime Minister’s Questions.

It is clear that Ms Truss likes fashion, and always looks put together whenever she steps out in public.
One of her best dressed moments – in blue – was for the BBC Leadership debate against Rishi Sunak back in July.
The Leeds-born politician donned a bright blue bodycon dress by iconic British deisgner Karen Millen.
Ms Truss is a great fan of British designers, in a similar way that Margaret Thatcher was – the latter even became synonymous with her own shade, Thatcher Blue. Perhaps another reason why the current Prime Minister enjoys wearing the hue.
However, some Lorraine fans were not impressed with the discussion about the Prime Minister’s clothes this morning, with a few claiming it was sexist.
Twitter user @JSASLDN wrote: “Could this get anymore sexist! No one ever looked up Boris suits or their meaning.”
Another viewer said: “Absolutely abhorrent misogyny. I am no supporter or Truss but I don’t support anybody using her wardrobe as a story. Her policies are the problem.”
One person typed: “Go after Liz Truss’ policies, not her wardrobe. Packaging the conversation as ‘fashion psychology’ fools no one. Last I checked, it was #2022 #Lorraine #everydaysexism.”
Another commented: “Why are Liz Truss’ outfits being picked apart on @lorraine? Funny how Boris used to wander about looking like he’d been dragged through a hedge backwards yet I never once saw anyone being brought on to talk about the psychology behind his shoes.”
