Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah transfer replacement could force Jurgen Klopp into tactical swap

Just to highlight his value to Liverpool, Mohamed Salah is still scoring goals at a faster rate than any other player in the club’s history in his fifth season at Anfield. The Egyptian star recently netted his 100th Premier League goal for the club in the 3-3 draw with Brentford to become the fastest player to reach a century.

Salah reached the milestone of 100 goals in just 151 league appearances for the club, having already clinched his century overall against Leeds.

In doing so, he beat the record set by club legend Roger Hunt back some 49 years ago.

The 29-year-old has been a revelation for the Reds since arriving from AS Roma in a £38million deal in the summer of 2017.

And he has continued his electric form in 2021-22 with five goals in six games, placing him at the top of the Premier League’s goalscoring charts.

But just how long Liverpool fans have left of being able to observe his magic on a weekly basis at Anfield remains to be seen.

JUST IN: Salah ‘wants a change’ despite Klopp demanding FSG agree contract

If he were to run down his contract, Salah would be only 31 and surely an attraction for any top European club with more years left in his career to give.

It has been suggested that Jurgen Klopp could launch a bid for Red Bull Salzburg starlet Karim Adeyemi to strengthen his strikeforce.

But such a move is unlikely to occur without a departure first, given Klopp already has Salah, Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino available.

That is before considering Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi are still at the club after the pair failed to secure moves away in the summer transfer window.

Adeyemi, who came close to joining Chelsea in 2018, has caught the eye of several clubs in Europe after rising to prominence with the Austrian champions.

He had already struck seven goals in nine appearances at domestic level this season before notching a double in the 2-1 win over Lille in the Champions League on Wednesday.

He also scored in the 8-0 drubbing of Armenia in September for Germany after being handed his debut by head coach Hansi Flick.

Adeyemi’s form and similar path has led inevitable comparisons to Erling Haaland, who also shot to stardom playing for Salzburg and now plays for Borussia Dortmund.

But the 19-year-old has a very different style of play, even though he is deployed as a central striker.

Adeyemi likes to take on his opponents and beat them with a turn of pace or crafty piece of skill.

But when it comes down to one-on-one situations, the teenager keeps a cool head as reflected by his brace from the penalty spot in Salzburg’s recent win in Europe.

It is understood Liverpool have been watching him closely as they line up Klopp’s next signing, with Bayern Munich also linked with the German starlet.

The player has already made clear his desire would be to return to his native land if Bayern were to push to bring him back to Bavaria, having released him when he was just 10 years old.

“If (Bayern) made me an offer, I think I would choose that path,” he told Marca.

“I want to show them what I can do, who I am and that it was a mistake to let me go. That motivates me.”

Currently, Salah is deployed on the right side with Mane on the left and Jota through the middle. Firmino has also been played in his favoured false nine role, but has seen his place taken by Jota more recently.

As such, the German would need to reshuffle his frontline in order to accommodate Adeyemi in his favoured position, although he would certainly thrive in Salah role’s if necessary.

That would then allow Jota to move out wide where he may enjoy some more freedom as a winger, the position from where he thrived he thrived at Wolves.

Liverpool’s first priority will surely be to keep Salah beyond 2023 given the fact he is showing no signs of slowing down yet.

But it is a situation the club may find out of their control — and if so, Adeyemi could be waiting in the wings to take his spot.
