Sadio Mane’s injury is ‘nothing serious’ after the Liverpool forward was forced off during Senegal’s World Cup qualifier against Togo.

The 28-year-old was left in some discomfort after going up for a header against a Togo defender on Thursday evening.

Mane was replaced by Boulaye Dia after 28 minutes, sparking concern among Liverpool fans with the busy festive period looming large.

Those concerns will have been eased somewhat however with Senegal manager Aliou Cisse later revealing the former Southampton star was withdrawn as a precautionary measure.

‘Yes, the exit of Sadio Mane destabilised us,’ Cisse said.

‘He is an important player for the team, we took him off as a precaution and there is nothing serious.’

The news will be welcomed by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp who has already lost Roberto Firmino to injury this month.

The Brazil international is facing a number of weeks on the sidelines after suffering a ‘serious’ hamstring injury during the win over Atletico Madrid at Anfield.

Liverpool, who went into the international break off the back of a disappointing defeat at West Ham, host in-form Arsenal on 20 November.

Following two more home games against Porto and Southampton, they head to Goodison Park to take on Everton in the first Merseyside derby of the season.
