Liverpool player ratings as weak link clear in chaotic Arsenal draw
Liverpool came back from two goals down to pick up a hard-fought point against title-chasing Arsenal in a game that nearly had everything with emotions running high. Express Sport takes a look at how Jurgen Klopp’s side performed in the match.
Liverpool player ratings
Alisson – 6
Couldn’t really do anything for either of Arsenal’s two goals and was ever-reliable every other time Arsenal came forward.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6
Looked all at sea defensively for the opening 30 minutes but his ball to Roberto Firmino epitomised the very best of the full-back.
Virgil van Dijk – 3
A game the Dutchman will want to forget after making key mistakes for both of Arsenal’s goals.
Ibrahima Konate – 5
It was a better display from Van Dijk’s defensive partner, but he could have closed down Gabriel Martinelli closer for Arsenal’s second. Should have won it for Liverpool at the depth.
Andy Robertson – 5
Much like Alexander-Arnold, looks far better going forward then defensively with Liverpool’s shape often exposed.
Fabinho – 5
A mixed bag for the Brazilian who was much improved in the second half, but failed to chase back on occasions when he missed a tackle.
Jordan Henderson – 6
Was Liverpool’s most advanced midfielder and ultimately played the assist for Salah’s goal. Led Liverpool’s high press to cause Arsenal trouble, but struggled to make a bigger impact.
Curtis Jones – 6
There is a talented footballer there somewhere and flashes were on show here, but it’s too few and far between and frustrates supporters with some of his decision-making.
Diogo Jota – 6
Was responsible for Liverpool’s only goal of the game with a neat pull back to Henderson, but ran out of steam in the second half.
Cody Gakpo – 5
Cute on the ball but looked incapable of taking the bull by the horns when it mattered most for Liverpool.
Mohamed Salah – 5
It was a neat finish to get Liverpool back in the game, but his touch was off for the majority of the match and his penalty miss could prove costly.
Subs
Darwin Nunez – 4
Came on for Jota to inject some more pace into Liverpool’s front line, but missed a great chance to equalise one-on-one with Aaron Ramsdale.
Thiago – 5
The long-awaited return for Thiago was well-received by the home fans, but he’ll need some time to find his feet back in the team.
Roberto Firmino – 7
Changed the game for Liverpool from the bench with Klopp taking a chance by taking off a midfielder. Just a sublime header for the equaliser.
