Liverpool can request three Real Madrid players in Andy Robertson swap deal
Liverpool ace Andy Robertson is reportedly being eyed up by Real Madrid in a £40million deal, with the Spanish giants drawing up a potential list of replacements for Ferland Mendy. Robertson is contracted to the Reds until 2026, however, and the Anfield giants could attempt to thrash out a swap deal if an unexpected bid for Robertson arrives. And Express Sport takes a look at three players Liverpool could request to take in the opposite direction.
Aurelien Tchouameni
Aurelien Tchouameni only joined Real Madrid last summer after Los Blancos shelled out a staggering £85m to prise the ace away from Monaco. The 23-year-old began his career in Spain in outstanding form and went on to star for France at the World Cup as his country reached the final in Qatar before losing to Argentina following a penalty shootout.
Tchouameni missed a penalty in that shootout and has struggled for form since the turn of the year after dealing with a number of niggling fitness issues. Liverpool were one of the clubs tracking Tchouameni last year during his time in France but ultimately missed out on his signature.
But if Real are desperate to get their hands on Robertson, the Reds could be in a strong position to push for a Tchouameni swap deal.
Ferland Mendy
Ferland Mendy has been at the Bernabeu Stadium since joining Real from Lyon in 2019 and started the Champions League final last season as his side saw off Jurgen Klopp’s Reds. He is contracted to Real until the summer of 2026 but has reportedly been deemed surplus to requirements in Spain following an injury-hit second half of the campaign.
Mendy is a proven winner having lifted a myriad of trophies with Real. And if Liverpool are to lose Robertson, they could do worse than to land Mendy in exchange as a direct replacement.
Andriy Lunin
Another Real player Klopp could chase is goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. Lunin has never been the first-choice shot-stopper in the Spanish capital and currently plays second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois. And he is unlikely to move ahead of his Belgian rival any time soon.
Liverpool could lose their back-up keeper Conor Kelleher this summer as the Irishman is said to be seeking a move away from Anfield in the hope of obtaining first-team football. And 24-year-old Ukraine international Lunin could move to England to battle with Alisson for the No 1 jersey.
