Liverpool and Man Utd ‘lying in wait’ for Serge Gnabry as both clubs hold transfer belief
Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly ‘lying in wait’ for Serge Gnabry as both sides hold the same belief they can prise the attacker away from Bayern Munich. Gnabry is out of contract in the summer of 2023, but talks over a new deal have stalled in recent months.
The winger has starred for Bayern since joining the German giants in 2017, having failed to show his talent on a consistent basis at Arsenal.
But he has thrived under the management of Julian Nagelsmann, scoring 12 goals and notching seven assists.
He has become Bayern’s starting right winger, helping them to storm to the top of the Bundesliga.
Despite his starring role for Nagelsmann’s men, there is a rapidly increasing problem on the horizon for Bayern.
That is because talks are stalling over a new contract to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena, with his current deal expiring in 18 months’ time.

His importance under Nagelsmann means that signing a new contract remains the most likely outcome with negotiations continuing.
But his stalling talks in Germany has opened the door to a potential departure, with Liverpool and United among the clubs interested.
It is stated that the two Premier League rivals are ‘lying in wait’ in case an extension does not happen as expected.
They believe that they could tempt Gnabry back to England if he does end up leaving the Bundesliga champions.
Putting pressure on Bayern is the fact that Gnabry ‘knows his value’ and is not tied to staying in Munich.
While he is not yet pushing for a free transfer in 18 months, the upcoming summer window represents the last opportunity for Bayern to bring in a fee for him.
Letting him leave for nothing is said to be the ‘worst case’ scenario for Bayern, with Nagelsmann having frequently stated his desire for the winger to stay.
But with the club’s hierarchy so far refusing to pay Gnabry what he believes he is worth, a return to the Premier League certainly appears to be on the cards.
