LIVE: NRL star’s ‘ambitious’ Blues prediction
Melbourne Storm star Ryan Papenhuyzen has weighed in on NSW’s chances of forcing a series decider with a win over Queensland in game two on Wednesday night.
Papenhuyzen has come painstakingly close to pulling on a Blues jumper in recent years but has been cruelled by a wretched run of bad luck.
Despite the pressure on Brad Fittler’s side to perform, Papenhuyzen was unsure why the Blues’ attack had copped so much criticism.
“I really think it has played out a bit more negatively than I thought it should have,” he told Wide World of Sports’ Freddy and the Eighth.
“For a majority of game one, I thought we were quite dominant. I thought we rolled through the middle really well and we just lacked a bit of polish at the end.
“We crossed the line a couple of times and Queensland scrambled well to save those tries. So, I don’t think it’s as dire as everyone thinks.
“I think we’ll go up there [to Queensland] with a pretty similar pack to what we had [in game one]. I thought they were really good, and with the addition of [Mitchell] Moses – he’s a confident bloke and he’s got that combination with Teddy [James Tedesco], they’re good mates.
“I don’t think we’ll go too bad but it’s obviously a different beast up at Suncorp Stadium. I think what we’ve got is definitely enough to get the win and bring the decider back home to be closed out.
“I don’t know if I’m a bit ambitious because I’m a New South Welshman or it’s my footy brain talking but that’s what I think.”
