LIVE: Mystery solved as Moses inks fresh deal
Wearing a jersey with the iconic “torn rabbit” logo and John Sattler’s player number, 515, are among an array of stirring tributes to be carried out by the Rabbitohs in honour of the rugby league legend on Saturday.
The Rabbitohs will play their first game since the death of Sattler, 80, when they meet the Manly Sea Eagles at Stadium Australia on Saturday night.
Additional tributes planned include the wearing of black armbands, as well as a round of applause in the 13th minute of the game, linking to the No.13 jersey worn by Sattler in his four premiership victories as South Sydney captain, in 1967, 1968, 1970 and 1971.
The Rabbitohs will also welcome the Sattler family to Stadium Australia, including Sattler’s wife Barbara and his son Scott, while video tributes will play on the big screens ahead of the match and a minute’s silence will be observed before kick-off.
“It is very important that we pay tribute to one of the greats of not only our club, but of the game, in John Sattler. And it just so happens that we are playing Manly-Warringah, a club with which John had a long and storied history,” said Rabbitohs chief executive Blake Solly.
“We encourage all Rabbitohs members and supporters, as well as any rugby league or sports fans that respected the great man, to come out to Accor Stadium on Saturday night and be part of this wonderful night honouring one of the truly great advocates for the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the game of rugby league.”
