LIVE: Manchester Airport updates as ‘carnage’ continues over half-term

Passengers have reported facing more huge queues at Manchester Airport this morning, with some describing the scenes as ‘carnage’.

Families are continuing to getaway for half-term and the upcoming Jubilee weekend, though many have been faced with delays at the airport. Passengers have taken to social media this morning to vent their frustrations.

Andy said: “Absolute carnage at Manchester Airport this morning. When they say arrive 3hrs before the flight is set to leave, they mean it!”.

Ric tweeted a picture of a huge queue for TUI bag-drop, and said: “The daily carnage has already commenced at Manchester Airport”. This comes after one passenger filmed the huge queue for the bag-drop at around 3.30am, which showed the line snaking out of Terminal 2 and stretching down the full length of the sky tunnel.

One passenger told the Manchester Evening News that he spent two hours in the queue before checking in his luggage. He said the queue ‘was getting bigger’ throughout the morning. Another passenger said on Twitter that the TUI queue was around three hours long.

Other passengers have also reported empty shelves in shops and cafes in the terminals this morning, following a hectic weekend at the airport. Manchester Airport apologised for delays at check-in desks and baggage reclaim in a statement posted on Twitter at around 8.30am.

“We are aware of challenge being faced by a number of airlines and handling agents, which is leading to delays at check-in and baggage reclaim for some passengers”, the statement said. “Airlines and their ground handlers are responsible for their own check-in and baggage handling services.

“Passengers are advised to direct any questions or concerns about these issues, or anything relating to their flight, to their airline, who will be best placed to respond. However, this is not the experience we want passengers to have at Manchester Airport and we are sorry to hear customers have faced disruption.

“We are in contact with the senior management teams of the relevant airlines and ground handlers to understand the cause of these issues, and to support their efforts to resolve them as quickly as possible. Our colleagues are on hand in the terminal to provide assistance to customers and we are working hard to ensure security waiting times are as quick as possible.

“It remains our advice that passengers should arrive three hours before their flight and be as prepared as they can be for their journey through the airport.”
