Full list of the key election battlegrounds in London
Labour is looking to improve on their already record-breaking result in the last local elections in London.
In 2018, Labour achieved its best result in the capital for more than 45 years with 44 per cent of the vote.
Eyes are on three councils in particular where Labour could make historic gains.
Westminster
Westminster City Council has been Tory-held since 1964 – but Labour are heavily targeting the borough and polling suggests they could take it.
The Marble Arch Mound fiasco has been a focal point for Labour after the Tory council spent £6m on the failed project.
Wandsworth
The South London borough of Wandsworth is another Conservative stronghold, held for more than 40 years, and was once described as Margaret Thatcher’s favourite council.
Labour came just ahead in the popular vote last time, but failed to win control. This time there is potential for them to make it over the line.
Barnet
The North London borough of Barnet could also go Labour’s way on Thursday. Barnet has been Tory for 20 years.
The borough is home to around a quarter of the UK’s Jewish population, and Labour failed to win it in 2018 under Jeremy Corbyn. Keir Starmer will be hoping to win it back as a sign of a “changed” party.
