LIVE: Joey rubbishes call after Knights heartache

Rugby league legends Andrew Johns and Billy Slater have poured cold water on a suggestion teams could be awarded one point for simply forcing a game to extra-time.

As it stands, each game in the NRL premiership is worth two points, which go solely to the winner. If a game is still tied after the extra 10 minutes of golden point, then each team will take home one competition point.

But following an 01-minute thriller between Newcastle and Penrith on Saturday, many have suggested the Knights didn’t deserve to walk away with nothing to show for a gallent performance against the two-time reigning premiers.

Johns, despite being a Knights legend and passionate supporter, is having none of that idea.

“No. Keep it the same,” he told Nine’s Sunday Footy Show.

“It’s my mentality, I naturally would go all out for the win. I’d roll the dice.”

Johns suggested tied games should be decided by golden try, rather than golden point, which typically turn into a field goal shootout.

Slater is also against the idea of awarding a point for being level after 80 minutes.

“Starting to get to where we are in life, aren’t we? We get something for losing,” the Storm great said.

“I don’t think so. I think you either win or you lose. I really don’t care to be honest.”
