LIVE: Broncos prop binned as tempers erupt

Broncos enforcer Thomas Flegler has been sent to the sin bin in the 21st minute – and not before being placed on report three times.

Flegler was reported in the eighth minute for a hip-drop tackle, and he was then twice reported in the 21st minute – for unnecessary contact and a late tackle – and marched to the sin bin.

The unnecessary contact was made on Warriors second-rower Josh Curran, with Flegler the third man in and crashing into his legs with another hip-drop tackle, while the late tackle saw Flegler hit front-rower Addin Fonua-Blake after dishing off the ball.

“It’s not pretty,” said former Sharks coach Shane Flanagan on Fox League as an all-in scuffle broke out.

But NRL great Michael Ennis had a different view to Flanagan, expressing his frustration during the half-time break.

“Flegler didn’t deserve to go to the sin bin,” Ennis said.

“The contact with Fonua was embarrassing… they’re two big guys in the middle. He can’t leave Fonua-Blake defensively there.”

The former State of Origin hooker then blasted the referee’s decision regarding unnecessary contact.

“I’ve been really strong. I hate this tackle. The bad ones are bad,” Ennis said.

“But he comes in around the hips. The dangerous one is when you hit them below the knees. This one he comes in and hits him around the hips. There’s nothing wrong with that!”

Ennis branded the sin-ban call “crazy”.
