Lisandro Martinez issues update after Man Utd star undergoes surgery
The Argentina international suffered a fractured metatarsal in United’s 2-2 draw with Sevilla in the Europa League last Thursday.
Martinez has now had surgery to aid his recovery but will now miss the remainder of United’s season.
On Monday evening, the 25-year-old wrote on his social media channels: ‘Everything went really well, thanks to God!
‘Many thanks for all of your messages. Now focusing on the recovery.’
In his message to United supporters on Saturday, Martinez wrote: ‘Not the way I imagined what’s been a very special season would end, but sometimes we face obstacles along the way that we have to overcome to make us stronger and we learn from them.
‘I know that I’ll be back soon to go for more. In the meantime, I’ll continue to support my team-mates to achieve our objectives.
‘The messages & support I’ve received has been amazing, they’re giving me strength and encouragement. Thanks to you all from the bottom of my heart.’
United are also without Raphael Varane, who also missed the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
For the game against Forest, Erik ten Hag opted to play Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof at the heart of United’s defence.
Ten Hag has also played Luke Shaw as a centre-back at times this season and the England international is expected to be available for United’s trip to Sevilla this Thursday evening.
