Lions linebacker Alex Anzalone worried about stranded parents’ safety in Israel

Lions linebacker Alex Anzalone took the field Sunday attempting to win a football game, while also concerned about his parents’ safety in Israel.

The seventh-year linebacker’s parents, Sal and Judy, are stuck in Israel during the deadly conflict between Israel and Hamas.

“It’s hard,” Anzalone told The Detroit News following the Lions’ 42-24 home win over the Panthers in Week 5. “(It’s) really all I’ve been thinking about.”

Sal and Judy are part of a group of 53 Americans who are trapped in Israel after arriving on Oct. 2.

They are part of a tour group through the First Naples Baptist church in Naples. Fla, per the report.

Israel has since declared war on Hamas, which launched the biggest attack on Israel in 50 years over the weekend.

More than 1,100 people have died, per The Associated Press.

The Detroit News reported the First Naples party has a flight scheduled to leave Israel via Tel Aviv on Thursday, but that area has been involved in the conflict.

The paper reported that Anzalone, 29, tagged President Joe Biden in an X message on Sunday, which has since been deleted, that said: “My parents are in this group. Please get my parents home…”

“Join us in praying for the safety and peace for the nation of Israel,” the post said. “Please also be praying for our First Naples team that is there now.

“From Pastor Alan: ‘We are doing good at our hotel in Jerusalem. Continue to pray for Israel and for this to be resolved as peacefully and quickly as possible. We are trusting in the Lord and we know that God’s got this.’”

Anzalone, a third-round draft pick in 2017, produced a season-high 11 combined tackles in Detroit’s blowout win over the Panthers on Sunday that improved the Lions to 4-1.

The former University of Florida product has 35 combined tackles and one sack for the NFC North leaders, who visit the Buccaneers in Week 6.
