Viewers are set to be in for a wild ride as HBO dropped the full trailer of The Idol.

The series – which drops on Sunday June 4 – follows self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult, Tedros (The Weeknd), who enters a complicated relationship with rising pop idol Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp).

Promised to be ‘the sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood,’ the first promo teased: ‘That’s sex, that’s what we’re selling.’

And the latest trailer proved just that!

The new teaser opens with Jocelyn taking part in a risqué photoshoot, while the character played by singer Troye Sivan asks: ‘When was the last truly-f***ing-nasty, nasty, bad pop-girl?’

The pop star is then whisked away to a club, where she meets Tedros (Abel Tesfaye) for the first time. The two dance together, before the trailer shows their relationship developing.

The Idol’s official synopsis reads: ‘After a nervous breakdown derailed Jocelyn’s last tour, she’s determined to claim her rightful status as the greatest and sexiest pop star in America. Her passions are reignited by Tedros, a nightclub impresario with a sordid past. Will her romantic awakening take her to glorious new heights or the deepest and darkest depths of her soul?’

Publication Rolling Stones claimed last month that the project was in ‘turmoil’, after multiple script changes, the exit of director Amy Seimetz after most of the series was already finished, and then Levinson taking over and scrapping the ‘nearly-finished’ $54-75 (£45-62) million project to rewrite and reshoot the entire thing.

Sources also told the magazine that when Levinson took over, he ‘dialled up the disturbing sexual content and nudity’.

The Save Your Tears hitmaker – real name Abel Tesfaye – was also under the spotlight for decisions he allegedly made on set, which were said to have him wanting to drop the ‘feminist lens’ of the show.

The Idol premieres on HBO on Sunday June 4.
