Lil Nas X is the latest artist to have something thrown at him while performing on stage.
The “Old Town Road” artist dodged an object tossed at the stage during his set at Lollapalooza Stockholm in Sweden over the weekend. But unlike the chicken tender thrown at Harry Styles last summer, this object was NSFW.
The music cut out and the dancers looked confused as Lil Nas X hopped out of the way before picking up the item – a sex toy – in a video a fan account for the “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” singer shared to Twitter Sunday, which Lil Nas X retweeted.
USA TODAY has reached out to Lil Nas X’s rep and festival organizers for comment.
Kelsea Ballerini, Pink, Ava Max, Bebe Rexha encounter concert incidents
The moment comes amid an uptick in incidents with audience members at concerts. Last week, Kelsea Ballerini was hit in the face with a bracelet in the middle of her concert.
Ballerini walked off stage in video captured by fans, later sharing a statement to her Instagram. “Someone threw a bracelet, it hit me in the eye, and it more so just scared me than hurt me,” she wrote. “we all have triggers and layers of fears way deeper than what is shown, and that’s why I walked offstage to calm down and make sure myself, band and crew, and the crowd all felt safe to continue.”
WHAT IS GOING ON? Lil Nas X almost hit by sex toy. Bebe Rexha hit by phone. What concert behavior says about us.
Days earlier, Pink paused in confusion during her performance of “Just Like a Pill” when a fan threw what appeared to be a bag of their mother’s ashes on the stage.
In the weeks prior, “Sweet But Psycho” singer Ava Max said an audience member “scratched the inside of my eye” when they slapped her while she performed during a Los Angeles show.
Singer Bebe Rexha had to be hospitalized in June after an audience member threw a phone at her during a concert, the New York Police Department confirmed in a statement to USA TODAY. The “I’m Good (Blue)” singer posted two selfies to her Instagram following the incident that showed her with an apparent black eye and laceration on her eyelid. “I’m good,” Rexha captioned the post.
